Westminster & River Cruise in London

Westminster & River Cruise in London

Hello friends!

This post is coming only about well… 2 and a half months late. OOPS! I really suck at this whole blogging thing but I recently gained a lot more freedom and time in my life so I am going to keep up on this more and I have a big announcement (even though majority of you already know – but whatever) that I am going to make when I am finally finished the blogs for my trip to UK & Paris.

Alright, well… let’s see how well I can remember what I did on this day because this trip now feels like a lifetime ago haha.

I spent this day heading into London with Tracey as Talia had to head back in to work for the day! Tracey and I took the train into London from Benfleet for a fun-filled day in London. To start, we headed to Borough Market, which is a massive food market with every kind of food vendor you can imagine. We walked around the entire market trying to decide what to have – from fresh fish, truffles, ethnic foods, cheeses, fresh fruit, smoothies… they had it ALL. Eventually we decided on getting some Pimm’s (trying to be authentically British ok) and I had a chicken burger & Tracey got some french fries (aka what the Brits call chips, hehe).

After we had some lunch we took the tube to Westminster where we planned to catch a boat for a cruise down the Thames. We bought our tickets and walked around Westminster Abbey and down the path beside the Thames before boarding the boat, which we would take all the way to the Thames flood barrier (which I didn’t even know was a thing?). Unfortunately Big Ben is all covered up and under construction 🙁 but that’s alright, I have seen it twice before!

If you are in London on a nice, warm & sunny day, I would for sure recommend doing a river boat cruise – you get a whole new perspective of the city from the water and learn a lot from the commentary that is provided along the ride. Also, it is a great opportunity to get some super touristy pictures & Tracey took a lot of those for me 🙂

After we got off the boat, we headed to St. Katherine’s Pier to meet up with Talia and Tasha for dinner and lots & lots of wine (I literally think I drank my body weight in wine during this trip – wine is SO cheap in Europe). It was so great to see Tash, I hadn’t seen her since I was over in 2010 for the olympics! Anyways, St. Katherine’s Pier is right by Tower Bridge and there is a marina with a bunch of boats and then there is a lot of restaurants around to choose from. We all shared a bottle of wine on a patio at one restaurant and then migrated to an Italian restaurant to have more wine and get some pizzas. During the time that I was in the UK, the FIFA World Cup was going on and damn, people there are OBSESSED with it. Even when the UK wasn’t playing – they would still be actively watching all of the other games. It was so weird to me.

Overall, it was a super fun day spent with Tracey and my cousins! London living would be so fun – maybe one day I will end up there for law school, who knows!

Next up, a local day spent in Southend for some yummy high tea – aka my favourite thing to do!
