Bonjour!
I am writing this half asleep back in the UK after an amazing three days in beautiful Paris. The city was everything I expected and more – I had been wanting to visit Paris for quite some time now!
Day 1 started with an early wake up call in London at 4 am, and we headed to King’s Cross station to get the Eurostar train to Paris. Half asleep we boarded the train around 5:50am and departed to Paris. It is crazy how fast the train is able to go – arriving to Paris in just under 2 and a half hours.
Once we arrived to Paris, we lugged our suitcases up the windy streets to Montmartre, where our hotel was. It was only about a 15 min walk, so we decided to tough it out and make it up the hills. Once we arrived at our hotel – and surprisingly without getting lost along the way – we gave them our luggage and headed out to explore around our hotel… the beautiful Montmartre. Known for being a hip and artistic part of Paris, Montmartre is one of my favourite places in the city. To begin our exploring, we hiked up the hill to the Sacré-Coeur and walk around the cute streets of Montmartre.
We walked quite a ways until eventually ending up on Les Grandes Boulevards, where the Opera is. The building was stunning & there was a bunch of stores around it, some that I recognized – such as, H&M, Sephora and Zara. We kept on walking and ended up in Place Vendôme. Which is a massive square with a bunch of high end shops and a hotel (I forget which one?). We awkwardly walked around some of the high end stores, like Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, etc. It was crazy the amount of people that were spending thousands at these places & looked to be doing so, so casually.
Next, we took the metro back to our hotel, checked in and had some down time before heading out again for dinner. On our way to dinner, I saw a macaroon that I could not resist. So, we got a macaroon and a piece of lemon meringue to go. For dinner, we went to a famous restaurant called Boullion Chartier – which is big with tourists, known for it’s authentic French cuisine AND at extremely cheap prices. Leave it to me to find the cheapest restaurant in Paris 🙂 haha… being a student is hard ok. Anyways, I got a steak with frites and Talia got duck. The food was pretty good, considering the very cheap price, however, the highlight of the restaurant is the cheap alcoholic drinks! We each got a 50cl pitcher of sangria and it was delicious.
Afterwards, we stopped for a drink at a cool bar/restaurant called La Comete. Then, headed down to the Eiffel Tower, where we enjoyed our pasteries. We stayed until the Eiffel Tower lit up and glistened and then head back to our hotel. It was a long and exhausting day but well worth getting up early, to have a full day in Paris.
