Negril, Jamaica

Hello!

It’s been a while, I am really not great at this whole blogging thing but I promise I am going to be better now that I am living in Italy (Yep, I’m actually here now!)

However, this post is about my trip to Negril, Jamaica the week before I left for Italy. I got home from University for Easter weekend and as soon as I got home, I found out that my parents had booked a trip for us to Jamaica as my graduation present that was leaving the following Thursday!

Our departing flight from YYZ wasn’t too early (around 10am) so we left the house around 6am! The airport wasn’t too busy, so once through security we ate some breakfast before we boarded our flight. Our flight was only 3.5 hours so before we knew it, we were in Montego Bay, Jamaica! We then hopped onto our shuttle bus to our resort (about a 1.5-2 hour drive) in Negril. We stayed at the Royalton NegrilĀ and my first impressions of this resort were: WOW. It is beautiful, very modern and clean. Apparently the resort was just built in 2017, which explains how nice it is! By far the nicest all-inclusive resort that I have stayed at thus far. Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean, two queen-sized beds and a nice bathroom! We settled into our room and then and then went to check out the resort and get some dinner from the buffet. The rest of the week was spent relaxing by the pool and/or beach, eating delicious food and drinks!

Resort

As I said before, the resort was BEAUTIFUL. As we walked into the lobby, it was really open and there was an amazing view of the ocean from up high. However, the resort was separated up into the ‘diamond club’ and ‘hideaway’, where you had to pay more to be (of course). But in the main resort there was one main pool, with a swim up bar and then a children’s pool with a massive play structure. The beach did not go back very far, however, the water was super shallow and very warm which made for enjoyable swims!

Food

Overall, the food throughout the entire week was delicious. Even the buffet had many different options to choose from, lots of meat & fresh seafood, as well as, authentic Jamaican dishes. In addition to the buffet there was restaurants that you get served at. There was a Japanese (had to make a reservation the day of), a steakhouse, a tex-mex, Italian and a West Indies restaurant. We tried them all, and they were all quite good, however, portions were quite small so we would usually order more than one appetizer or ask for more with our entree. We ended up eating 3 times at the steakhouse! Overall, the food was amazing and I enjoyed lots of fresh seafood and fruit on the daily!

Scuba Diving

This trip marked my first official Caribbean dive! I have been a certified diver since 2011 (I think?) and I was certified by diving in Ontario which was absolutely horrible. Therefore, a Caribbean dive was a much needed experience! I did two dives with my dad, the first one was about 45 mins and then the second a little bit longer. We saw a lot of fish, a lobster, and a bunch of stingrays. The guy that went on the dive with us (Kemar) said he saw a shark in the same dive spot we went on the day prior… I was happy that we did not see that shark again!

Overall, it was a very relaxing week spent in the sun (getting quite burnt!) that was much needed to recuperate after finishing University. See below for some more pics throughout the week!

That is all, next up: Italy week 1 (Venice, Vicenza & Verona!)
