Chania, Greece is a great budget destination and one of the main reasons why you should visit! If you haven’t read my blog on “5 Reasons Why Crete, Greece Should be on Your Bucket List”, check this one out first!

I stayed in 2 different accommodations while I was in Crete. I’m going to reflect on my experience at both to give you some amazing budget accommodation options for your future trip to Crete! I HIGHLY recommend both places that I stayed at, whether you want to be in the heart of Chania or outside of the city centre. This post is not sponsored in any way, I just genuinely enjoyed my stays at these accommodations & want you to experience the same luxury BUT on a budget!

Kumba Hostel

This adorable hostel is located in the heart of Chania, where you’re able to enjoy the old city vibes on a budget! If you’re arriving from Heraklion (the capital of Crete) via bus, the hostel is well within walking distance. 

Kumba offers 5 dorm rooms & 6 private rooms. There is a café right in the hostel which serves amazing food and drinks. However, if you really want to budget, they also offer a little kitchen with a full sized fridge! There is a grocery store right down the street from the hostel to buy some groceries. Feta, watermelon and Greek yogurt were staple groceries for my week in Crete!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The staff are super friendly and they’re always willing to help & answer any questions. It is newly renovated and designed so cute! Lastly, even though I stayed in a 12 bed dorm – all the beds have a privacy curtain and there is an air conditioner in every room, this made for an enjoyable sleep!

Esplanade Apartments in Kalathas

This hotel is located about 10km outside of Chania’s city centre. If you have the time & want to get out of the city, I highly recommend heading here. While there are TONS of luxury accommodation in this area and beautiful homes for rent, there are also many affordable accommodation options.

Features of this apartment styled hotel:

• The beautiful Kalathas beach is within walking distance.
• There is a pool with an amazing view of the ocean.
• There is a kitchen and table in the room, so you can buy groceries and save $ by prepping food and eating in.
• The owner is the MOST friendly and lovely person and will be more than willing to help you out with any questions/concerns during your stay.
• There are many restaurants close by and a lot of them even offer delivery to the hotel (with a vespa – super cute!)
• There is a little shop walking distance with all the basic essentials and there is a bigger grocery store within a 5 min drive.

How to Get There from Chania:

There is a bus from Chania’s main bus station that takes you along to the main road closest to the hotel. However, I would recommend renting a car (it is very affordable) in Chania and then driving to the hotel. Unfortunately, we didn’t rent a car until we had already reached the hotel and it is more was more difficult to get the car then because it is outside of the city.
